Nigerian Referees Miss Out on Precursor to AFCON Duties

September 13, 20231 min read

Shockingly, no Referees from Nigeria have been selected for the course, which raises concerns about the Country’s arbiters.

Egypt and Algeria have the highest number of officials selected, with three each in the Center Referee category.

Other countries on the list include Morocco, Mauritania, Mauritius, Gabon, Ghana, Benin, Congo, including Somalia.

In the Assistant Referees category Morocco, Kenya, Cote D’Ivoire, Algeria, Egypt, and South Africa have two names each. Comoros, Djibouti, Burkina Faso, Sao Tome and Principe are also represented.

The list includes four VAR officials from Mauritius, South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt, as well as seven technical instructors and physical trainers from various countries.

Egypt provides three VAR Technicians and IT Support members, with Benin Republic and South Africa contributing one CAF Referee committee member each.

Precious Etim

My name is Precious Etim. I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better.
