Napoli Boss Considers Osimhen’s Role as Main Striker

September 18, 20232 min read

The Serie A champions fought from behind to earn a point away at Genoa, but Garcia’s point man, Victor Osimhen fired blanks.

Osimhen returned to club duty against after a fruitful international break with Nigeria, but failed to replicate national team form against Il Grifone.

“We know that we did not play well, especially in the first half, as we didn’t create much. We also conceded two goals from  corner situations and that too reflects a lack of determination,” Garcia told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were simply not determined enough. For almost an hour, we did not play well, but at least we had a reaction and the light came from the bench, but it remains two lost points rather than one gained.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen has now failed to hit the mark in his last two games for Napoli, both of which the team has also failed to pick maximum points from.

Garcia however hinted, he now has other tactical idea to get goals from elsewhere on the pitch, which includes playing Giacomo Raspadori behind the Nigerian.

“I always said we should have more options available to us, so using Raspadori behind Osimhen is one of them.

“Raspadori participated in all four games this season, he started two of them and was unlucky not to score more goals, as one was disallowed by a matter of millimeters.

“Raspadori can play as a centre-forward, as a trequartista the way he did tonight, out wide in a trident or in any midfield role too. He is versatile and that is always valuable for a coach,” He said.

My name is Precious Etim. I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better.
