BREAKING: Presidency Speaks on Buhari’s Plan Not to Hand Over to Tinubu on May 29

  • Garba Shehu said the Buhari administration is also already in the transition phase and will handover to the incoming government of the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on May 29
  • The presidential spokesman said this in reaction to media reports claiming Buhari is unwilling to handover to Tinubu
  • Shehu added that Buhari is eager to leave the Presidential Villa and relocate to his hometown in Daura, Katsina state

State House, Abuja – The Presidency on Friday, March 24, denied reports claiming President Muhammadu Buhari is unwilling to hand over to the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the end of his tenure on May 29.

A statement released by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said the government is already in the transition phase, Channels TV reported.

“How can you vigorously campaign for somebody, vote for him and then say you won’t hand over to him? This beggars belief.”

Shehu described the media platform that published the report (not Legit.ng) as “pretty pathetic”, adding that its ownership is “politically partisan in today’s politics, in fact a loser in the presidential election”.

From Buhari to Tinubu: Presidency speaks on details of transition plan

Shehu further said a Transition Committee, made up of representatives of the Buhari government and the incoming Tinubu administration, has been set up.

According to him, the committee is meeting on a daily basis.

“The government is already in transition phase. The Transition Committee, made up of representatives of the outgoing administration and the incoming one is meeting on an almost daily basis planning the handover to the Tinubu/Shettima administration,” he said.

“Thirteen committees as offshoots of the main committee, some, to arrange military drills and pulling out of President Buhari, are either all at work or soon to be. So far, everything is going very well and there is no indication of any hitches.”

Buhari is eager to return to Daura, says Shehu

Shehu also stated that President is eager to return to his home in Daura, Katsina state, to enjoy his retirement.

He said the Daura community has begun their preparations to receive their son back after the “successful administration of the country for two terms of eight years.”

I’m eager to leave office, says Buhari

In another report, President Buhari said that he is eager to leave office as scheduled on Monday, May 29.

Speaking during his meeting with the outgoing United States of America’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, the president said he hopes to become a “big landlord” in his home probably in Katsina state.

President Buhari also said that after retiring from office, he will be working on his farms and tending to his 300 animals back in his hometown, Daura in Katsina state.

BREAKING: Atiku, Obi's Cases Against Tinubu Suffer Setback As Judicial Workers Declare Strike, Gives Reason

  • The judiciary workers have announced that they would commence industrial action from Wednesday, against the removal of the fuel subsidy
  • The workers under the umbrella of JUSUN cited the resolution of the NLC NEC meeting while asking its zonal leaders to mobilize members to comply with the directive
  • JUSUN going on strike means that the petitions filed by Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party will suffer some setbacks as the hearing would be suspended

FCT, Abuja – Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) have declared an industrial action against the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

Following the announcement by President Bola Tinubu on his inaugural day that “subsidy is gone”, the price of fuel has doubled in the last week, Daily Trust reported.

NNPC Price of petrol in Nigeria after Tinubu removes fuel subsidy

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) subsequently ordered its retail stations to increase the price of fuel per litre from N197 to between N488 and N570.

In its reaction, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) declared a nationwide strike, scheduled to commence on Wednesday, June 7.

M.J. Akwashiki, the general secretary to JUSUN, in a statement on Monday, asked all the states’ chapters and branches to embark on nationwide mobilization as well as withdraw their services from Wednesday.

Why judiciary workers declare strike against fuel subsidy

Akwashiki in his statement cited the resolution of the NLC national executive council (NEC) at her meeting on June 2 over the skyrocketing price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Federal Government through the NNPCL.

The statement reads in part:

“All zonal vice presidents are to coordinate their zones by ensuring that branch and chapters chairmen mobilise their members for a total compliance.”

How fuel subsidy removal will affect the PEPC hearing of PDP Atiku and Obi Labour Party suits against Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu’s team had met with the Labour union to ration alternatives and palliative for the workers but the NLC suspended further discussion with the government until it reversed its decision on the removal of the fuel subsidy.

The JUSUN strike will put on hold the hearing of the Presidential Election Petition Court where Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his counterpart in the Labour Party, Peter Obi, are challenging the 2023 election produced Tinubu as the president.

Bola Tinubu: Industrial court verdict, 4 other reasons NLC strike may fail

President Bola Tinubu from his inauguration day hit the ground running when he declared that the “fuel subsidy is gone”.

The announcement has put the country in an uneasy corner as fuel marketers have immediately increased the price of the commodity and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is already planning to embark on a strike scheduled for Wednesday, June 7.
